Graco formed in 1942 originally as Graco Metal Products in Philadelphia and for 11 years the firm manufactured machine and car parts. The founders Russell Gray and Robert Cone continued working together until Gray decided to leave in 1953. This left the firm with a question - where was the business to go?
David Saint one of Graco's engineers and a father of 9, had watched his wife comfort their babies on their backyard swing and was inspired by this. 18 months later saw the world's first wind up swing - Swyngomatic® - and Graco was in the baby business.
Graco continued to innovate throughout the years and no more so than when it introduced the Travel System, the first product that allowed mum or dad to quickly click a car seat into and out of a buggy.
In 1998, Graco acquired Century Car Seats. Graco is now a Newell Rubbermaid(TM) company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While 50 or so years have brought many changes to Graco, its commitment to providing innovative products for families remains.
